Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
The secret to happiness, according to the Bible, is living by God's words. Sounds simple, but really there is something deeper here.
It seems that simple obedience is the answer to all our problems, but we need to ask ourselves: how can one be obedient, which requires the act of denying ourselves?
First of all, true obedience is only possible when we understand God's love for us. Once we understand God's love, we can naturally react in obedience.
Secondly, we cannot understand God's love for us without faith in His words, the Bible.
As you can see, obedience and living by God's words is available to those who know God, and love Him wholeheartedly. These people yearn to meet Him each day by meditating on His words, and conversing with Him through prayer. Without such intimate relationship with God, obedience cannot last.
If obedience is a concept that seems rather distant to us, we should first examine ourselves. Do we understand that God yearns for us? Do we believe in His works and words carried out through Jesus Christ? If you answered yes to both questions, then obedience must have been unquestionable. This verse must have sounded sweet to your ears and you probably gave thanksgiving at the the look of the scripture Psalms 1:1-3.
I pray we all can be blessed by this intimate relationship with God.
