Although this movie is a Korean classic, the only reason I'm writing something about it is because I'm devastated.
"Once Upon a Time in High School" revolves around high school students of the late 70s of South Korea. Violence, romance, and humor, it has it all. But for me, romance was the main theme and the plot heavily depended on it.
I will speak directly. It is heart breaking when your crush chooses to have a relationship with someone who is incompetent. When you wish the girl could be slightly wiser, patient, and maybe even more discerning, it seems like everything goes the opposite direction. Maybe I am an idealist, but I am someone who wishes the best for all parties. The ending was devastating and I just cannot fathom how the girl could make such reckless choices.
I would recommend this movie only to people who want an insight into Korean culture. Of course there are other classic movies that probably do a better job at it such as "Bungee jumping of their own", "Beat", and etc.
Overall rating: 7.0
A story I greatly despise but cannot give anything lower than a 7 because of its success in portraying the tricky setting and sucking in the audience into an emotional havoc.
